Two killed, seven injured in road mishap

Rangiya: Two persons were killed and seven others, including a woman, seriously injured in two different road mishaps in Assam’s Kamrup (Rural) district on Monday, police said. The driver of a speeding car lost control and it turned turtle killing two persons, including the driver, on the spot. Five others, including a woman, were injured seriously at Dhupguri on National Highway 37, sources said. The car was on its way here from Tezpur and the injured have been admitted to Guwahati Medical College Hospital. The dead have been identified as Nabajyoti Rabha and Suraj Rabha. In another accident, an army vehicle knocked down a scooty seriously injuring two persons on National Highway 31 near Army’s Red Horns Division headquarters here. The injured, identified as Pankaj Sarmah and Jiten Sarmah, were initially taken to Rangiya Civil Hospital and later shifted to Guwahati Medical College Hospital. (PTI)

Nagaland govt issues show-cause notice to 3 institutes

Kohima: The Nagaland government has issued show cause notice to three institutes with regard to starting various courses in para medical technology. According to official sources on Monday, the showcause notice said the state Government, Department of Higher & Technical Education had given no objection certificates to the para-medical institutes, to start various courses in Para-Medical Technology in the Institute of Management and Medical Research Health Science & School of Nursing (IMMRHSN), Singrijan Dimapur, the Para-Medical Training Institute (PMTI), Industrial Estate, Dimapur and the Indian Institute of Para- Medical Technology (IIPMT), Kohima. Chief Secretary, Banuo Z Jamir said the NOC were given to the above mentioned 3 Para-Medical Institutes only to facilitate establishment of the institutes. Approval and recognition of the courses offered by these institutes fall within the purview of regulatory bodies such as the AICTE, NU, NCI, MCI and para-medical council of India and the No Objection Certificates issued by the Department of Higher & Technical Education are in no way to be construed as approval or recognition of the courses by the State Government. Expert Committee to visit Nagaland Varsity

Kohima: The expert committee constituted by President Pranab Mukherjee in the capacity of the Visitor of Nagaland University, comprising Prof Pramod Tandon and Prof Mahendra P Lama, former Vice-Chancellors of North Eastern Hill University and Sikkim University to visit Nagaland University including colleges and institutions from May 20 to May 24. Official sources said on Monday the Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, Union Government, the Committee, under Section 9 (2) of the Nagaland University Act 1989, would review the work and progress of Nagaland University and submit its report containing suggestions and recommendations within three months from the date of the notification for consideration of the Visitor.
