SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has expressed concern over the growth of BJP in urban constituencies of Shillong.
“The emergence of BJP in Shillong is a matter of concern. Looking at the performance of BJP, we have to pull up our socks”, Sangma told reporters on Thursday.
He said there was a need to strengthen the party in parts of Shillong.
BJP candidate Shibun Lyngdoh stood first in the urban constituencies of North Shillong,   (5165 votes) West Shillong (6591) South Shillong (10534) and  Pynthorumkhrah(6984).
The Chief Minister, who was a critic of Modi said that there was only strong anti-incumbency wave and not Modi wave as such which ensured the victory of the BJP at the Centre.  “There was strong anti-incumbency wave. Modi and BJP could actually exploit the situation”, Sangma said.
The Chief Minister felt that Congress party did an  injustice to Rahul Gandhi by projecting him  as the leader at the last minute while there was already a  strong anti-incumbency wave.
