Hek assures free & fair entrance exam

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek said on Saturday that his department was still waiting for the allotment of MBBS and BDS seats reserved for the State from the Central pool.

“We will hold the State Entrance Examination (SEC) once we receive the allotment of the seats from the Centre. We are expecting to hold the examination within the first week of July,” Hek informed in Shillong.

He said he was aware that questions were being raised over the proposal of the Government to hold the entrance test, and there was apprehension that the entrance examination might not be genuine.

“I have met KSU leaders and explained to them the reason the Government has to conduct this test. I have also assured that the examination would be conducted in a transparent manner,” the Health and Family Welfare Minister said.

“We have received a directive from the Centre to conduct the entrance test,” Director of Health Services Dr E Dkhar had earlier informed.

The KSU had suspected there could be manipulation in holding of this entrance since it had always been the case of examinations conducted by the State Government.

KSU general secretary Auguster Jyrwa said it was difficult to forget about the recent education scam where there were glaring manipulations by the application of white ink to deny genuine candidates from getting appointments.

“We fear that in this entrance test the genuine candidates would be denied the chance of getting an admission into the MBSS they found 107 live rounds of .32 ammunition and another 48 rounds of .22 ammunition hidden inside their socks and shoes.

They were identified as Imti Wabang (35) and Robinson Sangma (29), both hailing from Dimapur town in Nagaland. Based on their lead, police raided Chisengre village and arrested ASAK finance secretary Cherang M Sangma alias Aguk who also went by the name of ‘Chinese.’ He was reportedly supposed to meet the two Dimapur contacts and collect the ammunition for the outfit when police caught up with them. From his home police seized several demand notes in the letter pads of ASAK and its rival GNLA along with a single barrel (SBML) shotgun.

ASAK was formed late last year by the former finance secretary of GNLA Reding T Sangma.
