TURA: Tura police have arrested the self-styled finance secretary of the Garo outfit A’chik Songna An’pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) along with two arms suppliers in two separate incidents near Tura on Friday.

The finance secretary of ASAK, which was formed by a group of GNLA militants who had broken away from their parent organization citing differences with their military chief Sohan D Shira, was arrested from Chisengre village, near Babadam, hours after two Dimapur based gun runners were intercepted at Asananggre village, 18 kms from Tura.

Following a tip off, Tura police laid a trap and halted a Mahindra Bolero that was coming from the direction of Guwahati. During a body search of the two male occupants they found 107 live rounds of .32 ammunition and another 48 rounds of .22 ammunition hidden inside their socks and shoes.

They were identified as Imti Wabang (35) and Robinson Sangma (29), both hailing from Dimapur town in Nagaland. Based on their lead, police raided Chisengre village and arrested ASAK finance secretary Cherang M Sangma alias Aguk who also went by the name of ‘Chinese.’ He was reportedly supposed to meet the two Dimapur contacts and collect the ammunition for the outfit when police caught up with them. From his home police seized several demand notes in the letter pads of ASAK and its rival GNLA along with a single barrel (SBML) shotgun.

ASAK was formed late last year by the former finance secretary of GNLA Reding T Sangma.
