FIR lodged against JD(U) MLA in murder case
Nawada (Bihar): An FIR has been lodged against a JD(U) MLA and four others in connection with the murder of a man. The victim’s mother lodged an FIR at Pakribarawan police station against the ruling party MLA Pradeep Mahto and his four associates within hours after her son Pappu Mahto was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Monday, police said. Mahto was shot dead on the Pakribarawan-Kashichak road at Devibigaha while he was travelling by a jeep, police said. Incidently, the victim’s father Shailendra Mahto was murdered 12 years ago in which the JD(U) MLA was named as an accused, police said. The JD(U) MLA has denied the charge that he was involved in anyway in the murder of Pappu Mahto and said that he would come unscathed in the probe. (PTI)
Three-phase panchayat polls in U’khand from June 18
Dehradun: Panchayat elections in Uttarakhand will be held in three phases on June 18, 21 and 24. A notification to this effect has been issued, official sources said here on Tuesday. As per the notification, the counting will take place on June 27. Panchayat bodies in Uttarakhand completed their tenure in September last year, but elections could not be held on time due to the devastating floods in the state. (PTI)
Bihar minister gets bail in ‘obscene’ music album case
Arrah: Bihar minister Vinay Bihari was on Tuesday granted bail by a district court in a case related to composing “obscene” songs for a music album over a decade ago. Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Kishori Lal granted bail to the minister on furnishing two bail bonds of Rs 5000 each. Bihari was present in the court of SDJM. An Independent MLA from Lauria in East Champaran district, Bihari has been made minister for Art, Culture and Sports in the Jitan Ram Manjhi government. A case was filed in the court of Bhojpur Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) against 13 persons including Bihari for composing indecent songs for a music album over a decade back. The case was filed by one Prabhat Kumar Singh, president of a non-governmental cultural organisation- Bhojpuria Sena. The court of SDJM Kishori Lal had in January issued an order for attachment of property of all 13 named in the case. But, no action was taken thereafter. Bihari has said that the case was filed 10-12 years back against all the composers and singers of nearly a dozen songs in the music album in Bhojpuri language. (PTI)
Three dead, 12 others injured in bus-truck collision
Patna: Three persons lost their lives while twelve others were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck near Jarang village in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district on Tuesday. Police said the accident occurred around 30 km from Muzaffarpur town on a stretch of NH-57 that was declared one way. The bus was coming from Patna and was on its way to Darbhanga while the truck was coming from the opposite direction. “It seems both the vehicles were speeding and bumped into each other head-on. Two passengers – a man and a woman – died on the spot and the rest were injured. Another person died later on during treatment,” police said. The injured have been taken to Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur for treatment where the condition of eight of them is stated to be serious. (PTI)
350 detonators, explosives recovered in Bengal
Bardhaman (WB) : A total of 350 detonators and five kg explosives were recovered from an unauthorised coal depot at Kuldiha, 50 km from here, police said on Tuesday. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted two coal-laden trucks and following inputs from the drivers, raided the depot run by a coal mafia Raju Jha on Monday night, Superintendent of Police S M H Mirza said. During the raid, police recovered the detonators and explosives besides 23 kg ganja. An expensive car parked there was also seized, Mirza said. Ten persons were arrested, while Jha fled. (PTI)
MIG-21 crashes, pilot dead
Srinagar: A MIG-21 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force on Tuesday crashed in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district in Kashmir, killing the pilot. The MIG-21, which was on a routine exercise, crashed in the fields at Mirhama in Bijbehara area, 45 kms from here, defence sources said. Pilot Raghu Bansi was killed in the crash, they said. The MIG-21 had taken off from Technical Airport here this morning, the sources said. The cause of the crash was not immediately known. A team of IAF officials have rushed to the spot. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his condolences to the bereaved family of the pilot and suggested that the Centre address the defence procurement issue of the armed forces at the earliest. “Not entirely disconnected from today’s crash the new Govt needs to sort (out) defence procurement issue for Navy, Air Force & Army ASAP,” he said on twitter. Expressing grief over the death of the pilot in the crash, the Chief minister said, “My condolences to the family, friends & colleagues of the pilot killed in the MIG crash today (Tuesday). May his soul rest in peace.” (PTI)
