New Delhi: Setting the tone for his government’s tenure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday told his Council of Ministers to provide transparent and effective governance with time-bound implementation of programmes as he held a marathon meeting with them here. Providing “marg darshan” (guidance) to his 45-ministerial colleagues, he emphasised that the benefits of programmes and works undertaken by the various ministries should reach the people and the public should feel that the government is working for them, sources said.

He said all the ministers and ministries should work cohesively with synergy and appropriately utilise the services of the bureaucracy by taking them along for the country’s development, sources said.

At the three-hour meeting, the first since he took over a week back, Modi talked about his ideas on how to boost the economy, attract greater investment and improve infrastructure. He is believed to have asked ministers to come up with progress report on various projects initiated by the previous UPA government, the sources said.
