
NONGPOH: In a step towards ensuring health for all, Health and Family Welfare Minister A.L. Hek on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new health sub centre at Umtrew village, along National Highway 40, in Ri Bhoi District.
The health sub centre is being sponsored by the National Health Mission (NHM) at a sanctioned amount of Rs. 26 lakh.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone, Hek lauded the village authorities for their keen interest to get a sub centre at the village for the benefit of the villagers.
The minister also reminded the gathering of the endeavor of the State Government to provide basic health facilities to the people and to bring the avenue of health care closer to the people.
He also exuded confidence that the sub centre would ensure that proper health care is rendered to the people.
Others who were present at the programme included Director of Health Services Dr. L Sawian, Additional District Medical and Health Officer Dr. S Lyngdoh, District Medical and Health Officer Dr. L.M Pdah, Umtrew village development secretary Robin Markhap, Treasurer P. Riang, teachers and students of Umtrew LP School, besides prominent citizens and residents of Umsning area.
The programme was presided over by Umtrew headman David Kharnaior.
