North Garo Hills takes early lead at athletics meet

SHILLONG: North Garo Hills took provisional first place in the State Level Inter School Athletic Meet at the JN Sports Complex, Polo, on Wednesday, finishing the first day with seven medals, including three gold.
The athletics meet was opened by Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh.
A total of 569 athletes from the 11 districts of Meghalaya are competing in track and field events during the three-day contest.
NGH also bagged three silver and one bronze to put them ahead of West Khasi Hills, who ended day one on  five medals (two gold, one silver, two bronze), and Ri-Bhoi, who have four medals (two gold, one silver, one bronze).
South Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills have yet to open their account.
East Khasi Hills have a total of six medals, but are fourth as they have fewer gold medals than third-placed Ri-Bhoi..
EKH managed one gold, along with East Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills and West Jaintia Hills.
West Garo Hills have earned three bronze medals thus far.
Graceful Intipi (above-16 girls) and Brihot Rabha (under-16 boys) claimed two gold medals each for Ri-Bhoi and North Garo Hills, respectively, but with two days of action remaining, there is still scope for a whole lot more.
