SHILLONG: The GNLA has alleged that Garo Hills-based journalist Alva B Sangma was the chief adviser to its commander-in-chief Sohan D Shira and she was relieved of her duty from Thursday.

In a statement issued to the media on Friday, GNLA vice chairman Rafus Marak said that in an emergency meeting held on Thursday attended by the top leaders of GNLA, the outfit in one voice resolved to remove Alva Sangma from the post of chief adviser to the commander-in-chief of the GNLA for her anti-organizational activities. “She has been holding this post since 2010. No GNLA shall take any advice from Alva as she had violated the norms and conditions,” the GNLA leader said.

According to Rafus, GNLA has been under the dictatorial rule of Alva from 2010 till June 2014. “Now we, the GNLA, unanimously resolve that Alva be suspended from the post and she shall remain ordinary member of the organization till appropriate action is taken against her with effect from June 6,” Marak said.

The GNLA also alleged that besides misappropriation of the organization’s fund, she was found guilty of sending photos of GNLA camps secretly to the police and the Government.

“Do the people know why and how the Government official P.K. Boro was kidnapped by GNLA and later released? It was at the instruction of Alva and she has triple standards with Government, police and GNLA,” the militant leader accused.

However, Alva Sangma denied the revelation of GNLA by saying that she is a professional journalist and she is committed to her profession. “GNLA is an outlawed terrorist organization. As a journalist, I have access to all sources of news and in accessing these sources, including GNLA, I have not violated my professional ethics,” she said. Denying GNLA claims that she was their adviser, Alva asserted, “If I have to become an adviser to an outlawed group, certainly I will be the one to advise them to desist from the path of violence and join the main stream.”

She also asserted that the family of Boro, the then BDO, will vouch for her innocence.
