SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has threatened to drag NPP legislator James K Sangma to the court after the latter accused him of being responsible for promoting the militant groups.

“I might drag you to court for this. I have not done this for a very long time,” the Chief Minister said during Question Hour on the first day of the re-assembled budget session on Friday.

The NPP legislator said that the emergence of many splinter groups in Garo Hills is because “the Chief Minister is promoting the militant organizations”.

Later, while moving the adjournment motion, James said that there is a need to constitute an independent probe on the politicians-militant nexus.

“I am not afraid to make this demand since I have a very clear moral ground,” the NPP legislator said.

He also said that there is ray of rope of exposing this nexus by having a Prime Minister like Narendra Modi who believes in clean governance.

“Those who are involved in this nexus should be brought to book and taught a lesson,” James added.

Defending himself, the Chief Minister alleged that there was an attempt to malign his image by linking him with the ANVC (B). “A militant organization, whose credibility itself is questionable, is being used as a weapon to attack the Chief Minister,” he said.

He said that the matter was being investigated to establish “on whose directive this kind of false accusation has been made”.

“The truth will finally prevail,” the Chief Minister said, while reminding the House that in the last Assembly election, he had been accused of being the chairman of all the militant outfits in Garo Hills.
