SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said that the State Government has taken measures to conserve the fish species in the State through the creation of fish sanctuaries under Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission.

“We are holding awareness programmes, exposure trips and other related activities in collaboration with local communities, NGOs and fishing associations of the State,” Sangma replied during the Question Hour in the Assembly on Monday.

He also informed that a total number of 54 fish sanctuaries were established during 2012-2013 and 2013-2014.

While replying to a supplementary question raised by Opposition Leader, Dr Donkupar Roy, he said that the Government is coming with stringent guidelines to prevent killing of fish on a massive scale.
