SHILLONG: With the State reeling under acute power shortage, the State Government has identified two thermal projects in Garo Hills.
Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma told the Assembly that the first one is the 240 MW thermal project at village Era Aning near Nangalbibra in South Garo Hills, and the second project is the 500 MW thermal projects in East Garo Hills.
“Both the projects are under survey and investigation. The preparation of the DPR is on,” he said.
Sangma said that the developers are taking keen interest to see the project takes off at the earliest.
“We are also sorting out the various logistics including fuel supply which might be obstacle for the smooth implementation of the projects. We are also considering of setting up of the coal linkages,” Sangma said.
Opposition questions delay in Hydel project
Opposition leader Dr Donkupar Roy has questioned the delay in the completion of the Lakroh Mini Hydel project in Jaintia Hills.
“It is really sad that the project which was conceputalised since 2007 is yet to be completed,” Dr Roy said during the Question Hour in the Assembly here on Monday. He also recalled that when he had visited the project few years back, he was told by the people of the area that the Government is spending a lot of money for the visit many top officials and Ministers to the project site.
In reply, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said that he does not have the details about the status of this project.
Giving the status of the various mini and micro hydel projects which had been proposed in the State by the various agencies, he said that out of the nine projects identified by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), three are commissioned and one is under construction.
Out of the 77 projects identified by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Chief Minister said that the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of the six project are completed and one is under survey and investigation.
“Out of the four projects identified by Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited, the DPRs of the three projects are completed and one is under survey and investigation,” Dr Sangma added.
