Guwahati: Welcoming the BJP-led NDA government’s decision to accord priority
to tackle infiltration and illegal migration to North East, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi today called upon the central government to stop illegal infiltration to Assam from Bangladesh by enhancing vigil along the international border and by sealing the frontier.
Gogoi said, “There is no difference between our government’s policy and NDA government’s policy in respect of stopping illegal infiltration from across the border, detection and deportation of illegal migrants. The NDA government should take steps to stop infiltration at the border. ”
“For detection and deportation of illegal migrants from Assam, the NDA government is welcome to use its own machinery for the purpose. In fact, after the Election Commission issued voter’s identity card in Assam, the detection of illegal migrants has become easier now.”
Chief minister said that out of the total 229.03 km length of land border with Bangladesh in Assam, only 6.37 Km had remained to be fenced because of disputes over the land with Bangladesh at two points – Lathitila-Domabari and (2.87 km) and in Karimganj (2.50 Km).
