Two in fray for lone Mizoram RS seat

Aizawl: Two candidates are in fray for the lone Mizoram Rajya Sabha seat today, state assembly secretariat officials said today. S R Zokhuma, additional secretary of the state assembly and assistant returning officer for the Rajya Sabha polls said that Ronald Sapa Tlau of the ruling Congress and L Ramkinlova of the Mizo National Front (MNF) were the two contesting candidates for the polls scheduled to be held on June 19.
The ruling Congress has 34 legislators in the 40-member state legislature while the MNF has five legislators and its junior partner the Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) has one.
Election to the Mizoram’s lone Rajya Sabha seat was necessitated by the expiry of the term of the sitting member Lalhming Liana of the MNF on July 18 next. PTI
