SHILLONG: PWD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said that the VIP Road from Mawlai Mawroh to the Shillong Airport, Umroi will be complete by December 2014.
He said the department has taken steps including regular inspections to ensure the work gets completed in the stipulated time.
“The department has taken steps to complete the scheme within the stipulated time. Regular inspection has been done by the officers to check the progress of work and to maintain the quality of the road,” Dhar said while replying during the Question Hour in the Assembly on Friday.
The minister added that if the verbal instructions alone weren’t enough, several written reminders would be issued to the contractors if they failed to comply.
The issue regarding the delay in the completion of the road, which was originally slated to be ready by May, 2014,  was raised by Mawlai UDP legislator Embhahlang Syiemlieh, who further stated that the expectations of the people to get a better road remains a distant dream.
Claiming the work in the portion of the road from 16 km to 19 of lacking momentum, Syiemlieh insisted that the Minister provide the name of the contractor who was allotted with the work to construct the above mentioned portion of the road.
Obliging, the PWD Minister, informed that the work was allotted to one Charlet Dkhar. Out of the total 3.46crore, Dhar informed,  a sum amount of Rs 2.07crore has so far been released to the concerned contractor.
