Two-day Bru repatriation begins on Tuesday
Aizawl: The sixth phase of Bru repatriation will begin on Tuesday and preparations are in full swing to receive the Bru families who are willingly returning to Mizoram from six relief camps in Tripura. Around 459 Bru families were expected to return during the two-day repatriation and would be resettled in different villages where they had resided earlier before migrating to Tripura, Joint Secretary for Home Lalbihazama said. Meanwhile, four leaders of the Mizo Students Federation today left here for two facilitation centres bordering Tripura to conduct verification of repatriated Bru families. The students’ leaders would be camping at the Zomuantlang and Kanhmun facilitation centres where the Bru families from the Tripura relief camps would be first arriving, Federation President Lalhmachhuana said. The Brus had left Mizoram en masse in the later part of 1997 ad 2009 due to communal tension. (PTI)
Arunachal Governor felicitates NDA cadets from state
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma on Monday felicitated Arunachalee cadets Shimon Doke Lendo (Air Force), Yumlam Jose and Hage Kapa (both Army) at Raj Bhawan here who graduated from National Defence Academy (NDA) Pune. The three cadets from the state were among the 360 cadets of the 126th course of NDA, who graduated from National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, on 31st March last, a statement issued by Raj Bhavan said. Congratulating the cadets, their parents and guardians, the governor said that it is a pride not only for the parents and guardians but also for the state. The governor stated that Arunachal Pradesh is a border state and it must have proper representation in all the three services. He advised the cadets and their guardians to motivate students and youth of the state to join the armed forces as force multipliers, the statement said. (PTI)
YMA Day celebrated in Mizoram
Aizawl: Hundreds of Mizo youths on Monday donated blood and helped the needy people as Young Mizo Association (YMA) Day was celebrated all over the state and neighbouring states. YMA Day has been celebrated on June 15, but it was observed today as the day fell on Sunday. YMA members in every locality and village undertook their priorities as in some places planting of tree saplings, cleaning their villages, constructing poor people’s houses and distribution of money to poor people and patients in the hospitals were taken up. YMA was formed on June 15, 1935 by English Christian Missionaries and local leaders as Young Lushai Association (YLA) and the name was changed to YMA in 1947. It remained the largest social-based organisation of the Mizos. (PTI)
