Custodial death victim’s kin still await compensation

PA Sangma assures all help

TURA: Tura MP Purno A Sangma on Friday visited the family and parents of Late Balsan S Marak a victim of custodial death in Tura recently. The former Lok Sabha Speaker was accompanied by former Rajya Sabha MP, Thomas A Sangma.
During their interaction with family members the parents of Late Balsan Marak informed that no compensation had been provided by the state Government till date. They even revealed that although an RTI into the case was filed no information was given to them regarding his arrest, charge-sheet and post mortem report.
According to the victim’s parents Balsan’s personal belongings like wrist watch, wallet, driving license, bank account, pass book including his motorcycle along with necessary papers like registration, certificate etc had also not been returned by the police. Interestingly, the family members also made a shocking allegation that Balsan’s wrist watch was being used by a certain police gunman.
P A Sangma assured the family members that he would take up the matter seriously with the Human Rights Commission at New Delhi and promised allpossible help from his side.
Sangma assured the victim’s family that he would direct the Police department to speed up investigations to find the culprits behind the brutal murder. Similarly as in the case of Balsan it was learned that till date no compensation had been given to the family.
