Nursing body urges Govt to fill vacant posts

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Government Nursing Service Association (MGNSA) has urged upon the State Government to fill up the vacant 200 plus nursing posts with immediate effect.
“The delay in filling up of these vacancies has increased the work load of the existing staff. With shortage of manpower, nurses are bound to perform their duties through overtime which is a difficult task,” MGNSA general secretary B Thabah said in a letter addressed to Principal Secretary in charge Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.
She said that majority of the nurses are suffering from different infectious diseases and become victim to mental stress due to the work pressure.
Thabah also said that they were disappointed with the decision of the Government for not including the nursing staff in the departmental selection committee.
“We demand that the nursing expert should be nominated in the committee because only nurses are the one who supervise the students nurse in the schools and colleges both in theory and practical,” MGNSA general secretary said.
She said that the nurses will be compelled to take strong steps if the State Government failed to comply with their demand.
