St Anthony’s gear up for Subroto Cup glory

SHILLONG: St Anthony’s HS will vie for both the U-14 and U-17 boys’ titles in the finals of the East Khasi Hills Subroto Cup football tournament at the JN Stadium, Polo, on Saturday.
In the U-14 semis on Friday, St Anthony’s beat OM Roy HSS 4-2 in a high-scoring affair. Bantainam Suting opened the scoring for St Anthony’s in the 19th minute before OM Roy responded with two goals from Robertstar Malngiang and Phranky Buam before the half-hour mark. Rheadolf Nongneng scored a brace to allow St Anthony’s to retake the lead before Bantainam made it 4-2 in the 55th minute with his second goal.
The St Anthony’s U-14 boys will meet H Elias HSS in the final at 12:30pm after the latter beat Tyrsad HSS 3-0 in the second semifinal. A brace for Iakmenlang Khongjee and one goal from Sanborlang Sohtun gave them a convincing victory.
OM Roy will be represented in the U-17 boys final after they beat Umphyrnai HSS 4-0 in the last-four stage on Friday. The goal scorers were Superfine Suting (20th, 52nd minutes), Dawanplielad Myrchiang (22nd) and Obadaia Bareh (47th).
St Anthony’s come into the U-17 final on the back of a 2-0 victory over H Elias HSS. Santosh Singh and Shaibor Nongrum scored a goal each for the winners. The title match will be played at 10:30am.
Meanwhile, the final of the U-17 girls category will be contested between Tyrsad HSS and Mawpdai HSS at 9:00am on Saturday.
