Factory worker battling for life after friend’s prank
Ghaziabad: An ordnance factory worker is struggling for life after a friend played a practical joke on him. He filled compressed air into the worker’s intestine through his rectum by a high-power compressor, police said o Saturday. The incident took place Thursday in Muradnagar area of Ghaziabad but was reported on Friday night. Police said Rajendra Singh alias Pintu (30) was a contractual worker at the state-owned ordnance factory in Murad Nagar. While on a break from work Thursday afternoon, he and his co-workers were sitting near the factory’s compressor house. As a joke, a friend and co-worker – identified as Ankit – placed the air pipe of the compressor into Pintu’s rectum and opened the valve through which the high-pressure air ballooned his intestine, police said. Pintu complained of serious pain in his stomach, and some other co-workers rushed him to a hospital, where doctors provided him first aid and referred him to the Meerut Medical College and Hospital. 4 members of Lankan family arrested
Rameswaram (TN): A four member Sri Lankan family, including two minor children who arrived illegally by a boat from Mullaitivu were arrested off Dhanushkodi on Saturday, police said. The couple told police they had come to India after paying Rs 80,000 to the boat owner to drop them off at Arichal Munai sand dunes, ‘Q’ branch Inspector Kennedy said. He said the woman claimed they had come to India to avail of medical treatment for her kidney ailment and also because they could no longer bear ‘harassment’ by the Sri Lankan Navy. They are being questioned, he said. (PTI)
Woman along with infant twins sets herself on fire
Kanpur: A 23-year-old woman and her infant twins died after she allegedly set herself ablaze along with them, police said on Saturday. The incident took place last night in Shivli’s Beri Sawai village here when the woman, Malti, set herself and her eight-months-old twin girls, Kanak and Mahima, on fire at their home, they said. According to police, Malti’s husband died last year in a car accident, and she was worried about the future of her children which drove her to take the extreme step. Though the neighbours rushed to help them seeing fire billowing out of Malti’s house but the trio died by the time they could be rescued, police said. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, police said, adding, a probe into the matter is on. (PTI)
Everwin students launch novel campaign on Rainwater harvesting
Chennai: The importance of Rainwater harvesting was highlighted at a campaign organised by a private school here on Saturday. The theme of the campaign, involving school students, was Rainwater Harvesting with a difference. Hundreds of students of the Everwin Matric Higher Secondary School at suburban Kolathur carried placards containing messages and slogans on rainwater harvesting and its importance. The school playground was decked up for the grand occasion as a concept drawing on rainwater harvesting, spread over a space of 5,000 sqft, was the cynosure of all eyes. Students wearing water drop masks took out a rally which was flagged off by North Chennai Lok Sabha Member T G Venkatesh Babu in the presence of school Correspondent B Purushothaman and Senior Principal Kalaiarasi. The revolutionary Rainwater harvesting was introduced during the AIADMK regime to prevent rainwater from going waste and it was made mandatory for all residential and commercial buildings. (UNI)
J&K Police to have Twitter, Facebook accounts to interact with masses
Jammu: With an aim to unite more people and for better police-public relations, Jammu and Kashmir Police is soon going to have accounts on social sites. “We want more people to unite with the police and also have friendly relations,” Director General of Police K Rajindera told UNI at the sidelines of a function here this morning. The Police Chief said soon the State Police will create pages on micro-blogging site Twitter and social site Facebook to invite suggestions, advices from the people for better policing vis-à-vis to have good police-public relations. Mr Rajindera was on two-day visit of Jammu to review security situation along the borders besides crime, law and order ahead of annual Amarnath Yatra starting from June 28. (UNI)
