Saltlake Stadium to get makeover for ISL

Kolkata: The West Bengal government is set to give the Saltlake Stadium here an international makeover ahead of its date with Atletico de Kolkata, the city franchise of the upcoming Indian Super League football tournament, which will run from September 19 to November 30.

Right from doubling the four entry gates, to increasing the number of bucket seats, the government has promised full support to the Kolkata franchise, which has made Saltlake its home venue.

Although the stadium has a capacity of 120,000 spectators, the number of seats is limited to 57,000 while the remaining parts of the gallery are made of concrete slabs.

Among other things, the VIP enclosure and dressing rooms will be renovated while there are plans to bring in corporate boxes keeping in mind the international standard of the league. There’s also a plan to change the artificial turf and bring back the natural turf. (PTI)
