MeECLThe long queue at the payment counter of MeECL at Jingkieng Nongthymmai is a daily affair. People spend at least an hour waiting to pay their electricity bills. When all other public utilities have made it easier for consumers by facilitating online payment this so-called Corporation continues to function like a decrepit government department. There are four counters but only two are functioning. The staff (clerks) posted at this unit are busy playing with their mobile phones or just whiling away time. The counter assistants attend to their duties but find it hard to attend to so many consumers. Is MeECL or MPDCL listening? What about the Meghalaya Energy Resources Commission (MERC). Is it not meant to serve the public purpose
