SHILLONG: Tura Government College Students Union (TGCSU) on Friday served a seven-day ultimatum to the State Government to fulfill their 23-point charter of demands for the expansion and improvement of facilities in the college for the overall interest of students in Garo Hills and threatened to take drastic measures if the demand was not met.

“We are compelled to serve this ultimatum since the Government has remained silent on fulfilling our long pending demands,” TGCSU general secretary Balkarin Ch Marak told reporters after issuing an ultimatum to the Deputy Chief Minister in-charge education department Prof RC Laloo.

Marak informed that the student body had submitted a memorandum to the government in February stating their 23-point charter of demands.

He said that some of their major demands are implementation of new subjects, introduction of more streams and honours subject in commerce department, creation of posts in various fields, appointment of principal and vice-principal, creation of more post for teachers among others.
