TURA: Two motorcycle-borne Garo militants on Tuesday looted a petrol station on the Dainadubi-Mendipather stretch of National Highway 62 in North Garo Hills district after opening fire in the air and forcibly taking the sales returns of the day.

The incident took place at around 12:30pm when the armed men in a two-wheeler came up to Sarangma petrol station at Depa Sarangma, under Dainadubi police outpost, and opened fire in the air from their pistols.

The blank fire by the militants forced the workers at the station to flee for their lives while the militants disembarked and targeted the cash counter.

They looted the day’s earnings estimated at around Rs 45,000 and fled in their motorcycle.

The incident was reported to Dainadubi police only in the evening.
