The importance of Photography as a medium to document life in its multi-faceted aspects since the 19th century is a well established fact. It has played a major part in shaping the history of the 20th century. In recent years it has also emerged as a serious art form with enormous artistic and commercial potential. The art form unfortunately doesn’t have any institutional support in the North-East.
The Workshop has been designed to fill this gap by providing the participants with a chance to learn from the best in the industry.
Along with the Workshop, there will be an exhibition which will be open to all amateur and professional photographers. The exhibition will bring together photographers, especially from the North East, on a common platform to showcase their talent and creativity. Visitors to the exhibition are expected from all the North Eastern states including Sikkim.
Some prominent names featuring the workshop include Coni Hörler who started his career in photography in1994 and made India his major subject in photography and the centre of his life since he first discovered the beauty of the subcontinent in 1996. Coni has worked for various international companies and brands which includes IBM Think! Switzerland, Wirtschaftswoche, Germany, Geo Special, Germany and Geo India.
Apart from him, the organisers have managed to rope in Maneesh Mandanna who is better known for his works in Vogue, Elle, Maxim, Marie Clarie etc and also assisting legendary photographer Mary Ellen Mark.
The workshop will also see other professional photographers like Vishal Sabharwal, a contributor for National Geographic and Lonely Planet.
Local lads, Pynkmenlang Lyngdoh Mawnai, Eleazar Dhar, Joel Dexter Kharkongor and Priyanku Sarmah, the CEO of Native Eyes will also take part in the event as tutors.
