Elephants kill 1

TURA: A herd of three wild elephants went on the rampage destroying a house and trampling to death an elder of the house in remote Jhalopara village of Dalu in West Garo Hills district bordering neighbouring Bangladesh on ) Wednesday morning. The incident took place at around 4am when the pachyderms crossed over from neighbouring Bangladesh and invaded the nearby crop fields. The wild herd attacked the residence of Krishna Das (52) forcing the inmates to flee.

In the melee, one of the elephants attacked Das and trampled him to death. He was a well known food expert who was regularly engaged in the food sector during weddings.The herd was later pushed out by wildlife department personnel towards the southern border.

There is apprehension that the herd could return as it had happened previously when another villager had fallen victim to their attack the previous month.
