SHILLONG: With the lingering misunderstanding among the Congress legislators over the adverse campaign both in the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls, some legislators have already made a move to meet some BJP functionaries in the State to ensure that they are not defeated in the 2018 Assembly polls due to the infighting in the Congress.
While some legislators are still unhappy over the stand of a few legislators including Chief Minister Mukul Sangma for not campaigning for the party candidate Vincent Pala who won, albeit with a reduced margin, in the Lok Sabha polls, others had expressed their unhappiness over the alleged interference of Pala during the Assembly polls in 2013.
Though there were meetings in Delhi convened by the AICC to discuss the recent Lok Sabha polls and to ensure discipline in the party, party sources said that no disciplinary action was taken against those who campaigned against Pala despite the direction of the High Command in this regard.
The BJP made its presence felt in a big way in the city constituencies and parts of Jaintia Hills in the Lok Sabha polls and looking at the future prospects, some Congress legislators are also planning to contest on BJP tickets in the 2018 Assembly polls as they consider that under the leadership of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, some of them may face defeat due to the persistent misunderstanding among the Congress legislators.
Though the AICC had asked the legislators to forget the past and ensure unity in future, some legislators still insist that their grievances had not been addressed yet.
Earlier, former BJP member and present Cabinet Minister from the Congress, A.L. Hek, had met several BJP ministers in Delhi sparking speculations that Hek was coming close to the BJP.
However, Hek had maintained that he was still a Congress man.
