Decomposed body of woman recovered
Aizawl: The decomposed body of a 30-year-old woman, swept away by massive landslide on Monday last, was recovered from the river Chite near Aizawl on THursday evening. Young Mizo Association (YMA) sources said the body of Munna Begum was recovered by the volunteers of the YMA branch of southernmost Aizawl’s Venghnuai locality. The central committee of the YMA organised massive search by involving its branches within Aizawl city since Tuesday while the State Disaster Response Force was also involved in the search operations. Aizawl district Additional SP Remsanga said six people, including Munna Begum, were inside a house at the Falkland locality of Zemabawk when the landslide swept it away on July 14. (PTI)
Tight security during Nagaland Assembly Budget Session
Kohima: Nagaland Legislative Assembly secretary A E Lotha, has in an office order on Thursday stated, tight security would be adopted to strengthen the security measures as well as to avoid security lapses during the Budget session. According to an official report today, the strict measures had been adopted by the High Level Security meeting held on July 10. The measures are all the Officers and staff of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and media, including visitors of Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat, are to strictly comply to the measures. All the vehicles entering through Gate-II should slow down near security checking for vehicles and recording of vehicle numbers. All the person(s) concern should produce I.D. Card to the Security Personnel on demand. -Security checking to be carried by Nagaland Police personnel, 78 Battalion of CRPF Personnel and Watch & Wards of Nagaland Legislative Assembly. – The above security measures shall come into force with immediate effect, report said. Nagaland MP Rio greets Governor designate PB Acharya
Kohima: The lone Lok Sabha MP of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio has extended congratulations to P. B. Acharya on being appointed as Governor of Nagaland. In his message to Governor designate, Rio expressed confidence that Achrya’s vast experience of more than five decades of involvement with the people of Nagaland and the North East at the grassroots level would be of great benefit to the people of Nagaland and the nation. Asserting over the past five decades, Achrya had made significant contributions for the welfare of the people especially the youth, students and the downtrodden and said Acharya’s appointment as Governor was a matter of ‘great joy and happiness for all of us who are aware of your tireless efforts.’ Rio further expressed hope that the new Governor would be able to make a positive impact on Nagaland and its citizens during his tenure and contribute towards the realization of the aspirations of the people. On the ongoing peace process and ‘strong desire of the people’ for a solution to the decades old Naga political, Rio said ‘we are all confident that you will strengthen the peace process and facilitate towards realization of permanent peace.’ He assured the Governor of his fullest cooperation in realizing common goals and looked forward to working together in their common responsibility of serving the nation. One NSCN (IM) injured, arms recovered in Arunachal
Itanagar: One NSCN (IM) cadre was received injuries during an encounter with security forces in Lapnan Village near Khonsa in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday. The victim was identified as self-styled corporal, John Phoren Rangwa age about 25-26 years, according to Tirap SP, the NSCN cadre was admitted in Dibrugarh Hospital in Assam for undergoing treatment. The police also recovered arms and ammunition, including one AK-47 rifle with 90 rounds, one .22 pistol from the encounter site. On the basis of a tip off about the presence of underground cadres, a joint team of security forces raided the village in the early yesterday morning. However, NSCN (IM) activists had started firing when they noticed about the presence of security personnel. In response security forces retaliated in which the arrested NSCN cadre was injured. (UNI)
