Contraband items seized

SHILLONG: The anti-smuggling Unit of the Customs division, Guwahati along with the Customs Preventive, Shillong, on Saturday seized huge amount of contraband items from a dhaba in Marweit, Ri Bhoi district .

A senior Customs Preventive official said that the team seized 19.38 kg of opium and 105 kg of poppy straw powder from the dhaba.

The approximate value of the seized items, which were hidden underground, is estimated around Rs 27.29 lakh. The customs team has arrested the owner of the dhaba, M Singh along with two others, Jasprit Singh and K Kalita under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).

The official also informed that as per the statement of the arrested persons the contraband items were brought from Manipur.
