Teenage girl raped by neighbour
Aligarh: A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 22-year-old neighbour, a B.Tech student, in a village here, police said Monday. The incident took place in the Harduaganj police station area last week, but the case was registered on Monday, they said. The victim’s family took so long to register the case as the accused had allegedly threatened them with dire consequence if they did so. The family, however, approached SSP Mohit Gupta on Sunday. The SSP has ordered a probe, they said. The accused has been identified as a student of a local engineering college. According to the police, at the time of the alleged rape, the victim’s parents were not at home. (PTI)
Minor girl dies en-route Vaishno Devi shrine
Jammu: A minor girl on Monday died after being hit by a shooting stone, which rolled down Trikuta hills en-route the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra belt of Reasi district, police sources said. Sources said, the victim has been identified namely as Vidushi, daughter of Rakesh of Punjabi colony, Shamli in Uttar Pradesh (UP). “The girl was on a pilgrimage to the cave shrine nestled in Trikuta Hills along with her family, suddenly a huge piece of rock, which slid from the hill top due to landslides near Sanjichat hit her on Monday resulting in her on the spot death,” they said. Violence in village after kids die Burhanpur
MP: All hell broke loose in Bahadurpur village due to tumult by locals who pelted stones at dwellings of the Sarpanch and his deputy after three children drowned Monday morning while bathing in rainwater-filled pits outside the village. Police said that the bodies of Badal (8), Sohail Khan (9) and Saiyyad Anees (10) were fished out by villagers who held the Panchayat responsible. They alleged that unauthorised extraction was underway in the area where the pits are located and thrashed a panchayat member present on the spot. The corpses were sent for postmortem. (UNI)
Exorcist arrested for death of woman
Kollam: A 45-year-old man was on Monday arrested for allegedly causing the death of a woman by performing exorcism at Karunagapalli near here. The exorcist, identified as Sirajudeen, was absconding following the death of 26-year-old Haseena at Thazava on July 16. He was arrested from neighbouring Pathanamthitta district, police said.He was engaged by the woman’s father to free her from possession of evil spirits. The post-mortem conducted on the woman revealed that her backbone had been broken and she suffered internal bleeding after the exorcist allegedly kicked her to rid her of evil spirits, police said. Police have already arrested Sirajudeen’s aide Kabeer and Haseena’s father Hassan Kunju. There were many criminal cases against Sirajudeen, police said. (PTI)
Cop mowed down, DMDK woman councellor’s son arrested
Chennai:A day after a Head Constable was mowed down by illegal sand smugglers using a tractor at Thakkolam village in Vellore District of Tamil Nadu, a special police team on Monday arrested the prime accused in the case, even as leaders of various political parties condemned the murder. Police sources said main opposition party DMDK sixth ward Councillor Senbagavalli’s son Suresh, who drove the tractor, was arrested at Thiruvalam village near Katpadi Monday morning. He would be produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. The cop, Kanagaraj, attached to the Thakkolam Police Station, had questioned the illegal sand mining at Kosasthalai river, when the sand miners mowed him down using the tractor. The driver abandoned the tractor and fled the scene. Police registered a case of murder, acted swiftly and found that Suresh was the one who had driven the tractor and mowed down the cop, and arrested him. (PTI)
HC upholds man’s life term for killing wife
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday upheld the life imprisonment awarded to a man for murdering his wife who was having an illicit relationship, saying that he had a strong motive and was directly linked to the crime. A division bench of justices G S Sistani and G P Mittal dismissed the appeal of Delhi resident Suresh Chand and upheld the life term given to him by a trial court here in 2009. “…Since the information given by the appellant led to the discovery of facts, which facts were within the knowledge of Suresh and also which had a direct relation and nexus to the commission of the offence, the same would be covered under the provisions of the Evidence Act. “We find no grounds to interfere with the judgement of trial court …the recovery effected on the pointing out of the appellant and the disclosure made by him are sufficient to hold the appellant guilty” the court said.
