Minor girl burnt to death in Kanpur
Kanpur: A minor girl was allegedly burnt to death under mysterious circumstances in Kamalpur village in Maharajpur area here, police said on Thursday. The incident took place on Wednesday when Anita (14), a class VIII student and a resident of Kamalpur village, went to her relatives’ place after returning from school, they said. Anita was then caught and allegedly thrashed by her uncle for speaking over the phone following which she returned to her house, police said. After sometime, the girl’s neighbours saw smoke coming out of the house and rushed to the spot. By the time they reached, her body was burnt, they said. The body was sent for post-mortem, police said, adding the deceased’s uncle and other relatives are being questioned. (PTI)
Man beaten to death by elder brother
Shravasti (UP): A 45-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his elder brother over a trivial issue in Bhaiyapurva Chakva village here, police said on Thursday. Billale was beaten by his elder brother Babadeen (50) with a stick yesterday evening when he asked a guest at the latter’s house to return his money, leading to his death. A case has been registered on the complaint of the deceased’s wife and body sent for post-mortem examination. Hunt is on to nab the accused, who fled the scene after the crime, police said. (PTI)
4 killed as heavy rains lash Amravati
Amravati (Mah arashtra): Four persons, including two women, were killed in separate incidents and hundreds of houses damaged in the district following heavy rains here in the past few days, police said on Thursday. A woman, identified as Noorjehan Parveen Jalil Jehan, died in Paratwada, while Balu Narayan Rokade (58) succumbed to rain fury at Sategaon in Anjangaon Surji tehsil of the district when their houses collapsed on July 22, according to an official statement issued by district police said. Besides, a couple, Haribhau Istari Shelokar (60) and his wife Manda (60), was killed in house collapse following heavy downpour in Chandur Railway town on Tuesday night. A number of cattle were also swept away in flood water and several villages got inundated due to the rivers being in spate after heavy rains lashed the district yesterday and on Tuesday, police added. CPI leader killed in Odisha
Berhampur (Odisha): A local CPI leader was killed allegedly by some unidentified men at Chhatrapur in Ganjam district, police said today. Sakura Behera (30) was attacked with sharp weapons by some unknown persons when he was riding a motor-cycle last evening, Superintendent of Police Ashish Kumar Singh said. Behera was first taken to the sub-divisional hospital at Chhatrapur and then shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital where he died, Singh said. “The exact cause of the attack is yet to be ascertained and investigation is on,” the SP said. Behera was a leader of the youth wing of CPI in the district. (PTI)
Two teenagers killed as tractor-trolley overturns
Azamgarh: the tractor-trolley in which they were travelling overturned on the banks of river Kunwar, police said. Faisal (17) and Rohit (18) were killed on the spot and Farhan (17) was injured when the tractor-trolley, which they were taking for washing in the river, overturned in Sanjarpur village under Saraimeer police station area, Superintendent of Police Lalbahadur said. The injured has been admitted to a hospital, he said. (PTI)
Kawad yatra: 3 Lord Shiva devotees killed
Muzaffarnagar: Three Lord Shiva devotees were killed in separate incidents in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts here, police said on Thursday. One Kawad devotee Tara Chad [40] was killed when a passenger train knocked him down at a crossing near here yesterday, they said. In the second incident, Anuj Kumar [21] was electrocuted when he came in contact with an electricity wire at Khatoli town in the district, police said. A 17-year-old Haryana-based devotee Deepak Kumar drowned in Yamuna river at Kairana in Shamli district, they said. The incident took place yesterday when he was bathing in Yamuna, Sub-Divisional Magistrate S K Mishra told reporters here on Thursday. (PTI)
Trinamool member’s insistence annoys Speaker
New Delhi: Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Bandopadhyay’s insistence to have his way in the Lok Sabha did not go down well with Speaker Sumitra Mahajan today. Bandopadhyay raised the issue of plight of workers of closed tea gardens in West Bengal despite suggestions from the Speaker that he could do so in the evening when the Zero Hour is taken up. She proceeded to take up the debate on the Finance Bill and even called out Finance Minister Arun Jaitley but Bandopadhyay continued to press for raising the issue about which he said he had written to her. As the Speaker resisted the attempt, Bandopadhyay was heard saying “if you don’t allow, you will compel us to become restless. (PTI)
