‘Global film industry gender-biased’

A study has revealed that only 22 percent of the crew involved in making 2,000 of the biggest grossing films worldwide over the past 20 years were women.
Women accounted for only 13 percent of the editors, 10 percent of the writers and just five percent of the directors, it added.
According to the report compiled by British producer and writer Stephen Follows, women were mostly associated with costume and wardrobe departments and casting.
Visual effects had an average of only 17.5 percent of women while music had just 16 percent.
The camera and electrical departments were dominated by men – a whopping 95 percent, Guardian reported.
“It is terrifying. Every time I did a small bit of research, I could not believe how unrepresentative the industry was,” Follows was quoted as saying.
According to the report, less than two percent of the directors of the top 100 grossing films in 2013 were females.
Only one movie had a woman to compose the score, it added. (IANS)
