Kolkata:  In his first day in office as Cricket Association of Bengal joint-secretary, former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Saturday said playing cricket was “tougher” than wearing the administrator’s hat.
“In cricket, you get only one life but here you’ll get opportunities. I’ve a very good team headed by Jagmohan Dalmiya, we have to work together. It’s a different feeling to sit on this chair,” Ganguly said remembering his late father Chandidas Ganguly who was also a CAB joint-secretary.
The 42-year-old, who also co-owns football franchise Atletico de Kolkata besides doing occasional commentary, spent about two hours and met Dalmiya to begin a new innings in cricket administration.
Asked how would he do justice to his role, Ganguly said: “If Mukesh Ambani can run so many companies together, why can’t I? I’ll have to be in my hometown for both football and CAB. I’ll be away only for a few months (for commentary)…”
He is known for his cricketing acumen on the field and Ganguly has already envisaged many a things to develop cricket in Bengal.
“I’ve some plans in my mind but I’ll take about four-five months to get them implemented. The priorities would be to develop the wicket and give special attention on players’ selection.”
Ganguly was elected unopposed in absentia as he was busy doing commentary in the India-England Southampton Test. He returned n Friday only to take over the charge this evening. PTI
