SHILLONG: West Jaintia Hills police arrested nine persons and seized four coal-laden trucks from Jowai on Monday.

Informing this, West Jaintia Hills SP Herbert Lyngdoh said that police detected these trucks (ML 04 B 1185, ML 04 B 0546, ML 05 H 4277 and ML 10 7477) between 2 am and 4 am on Monday.

Noting that right to life is far more significant than economic interest of a state or an individual, the NGT recently upheld its ban on coal mining.

The green bench, however, allowed transportation of extracted coal kept in the open with due “checks and balances”.
