SHILLONG: Over 100 illegal shops were dismantled in Iewduh during a routine checking drive carried out by the enforcement wing of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Tuesday.

During the drive, the enforcement staff also sealed five shops in Iewduh area as their owners have not renewed their trading license.

While speaking to newsmen after the eviction drive, Executive Member in-charge Trade Latiplang Kharkongor expressed his happiness over successful and peaceful completion of the drive.

“We will continue to carry out similar exercises in the near future,” he added.

In view of July 25 incident in which KHADC staff were assaulted during an eviction drive, KHADC staff were accompanied by police and CRPF personnel during Tuesday’s drive.
