SHILLONG: The FKJGP has criticised the decision of the MUDA to raise the fare of the buses under the Shillong Public Transport Service (SPTS) and maxi cabs under the Shillong Supplementary Public Transport Service (SSPTS).

“The decision is totally unjustified since many of the commuters who are using the STPS buses and maxi cabs are the poor people who do not have their own means of transportation,” FKJGP information secretary, Eldie Newton Lyngdoh stated in a statement issued here on Thursday.

He said that the intention of introducing the maxi cabs and STPS buses was to cater to the poorer sections of the society.

“If the fares are equal to the fares of the local cabs, then it does not serve the purpose,” Lyngdoh added.

The FKJGP information secretary said that they will soon meet Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh to demand reduction in the fare of the buses and maxi cabs.
