Actress Juhi Chawla does not count her two scene appearance in Om Puri-Helen Mirren starrer The Hundred Foot Journey as her Hollywood debut.
“It was just a guest appearance I did. I am just there for two minutes, it is not really a debut. I am there in the introduction scene,” the actress told. “It is not that I am not happy. It was just two scenes and it has remained two scenes only,” the actress said.
The 46-year-old actress, however, is surprised with the way her role shaped up in the movie. “I was surprised that they had to use special effects to make me look the way they wanted… so I was like (surprised), I was not told this will happen.”
Juhi agrees with veteran actors Kamal Hassan and Om Puri who feel roles are not written for older actors here.
“The roles (for older actors) come few and far between.
A film like A Wednesday is incomplete without actors like Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah…it was a fantastic film. Such roles come but not everyday,” she said.
“As all of us want to see dance, song, campus romance and love stories and those are the mainstream films.
Once in a while a director wants to do something different,” she said. Juhi feels roles for older actors are well written in Hollywood. (PTI)
“I think in ‘The Hundred Foot Journey’, the role of Omji is fantastic. I wish I was offered a role like this… I would have grabbed the offer. It is a lovely film,” she added. (PTI)
