BJP accuses Rahul of playing “communal politics”
New Delhi: Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party were on Saturday locked in a fierce war of words over ‘communal’ politics.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi asserted that communal riots in Uttar Pradesh were artificially and deliberately engineered to divide the poor
BJP leaders strongly contested such comments daring Rahul to explain the Congress relationship with the Samajwadi party in Uttar Pradesh.
In an interview to a national daily, Rahul was reported to have said that communal conflicts were being stoked in the country, mainly in Uttar Pradesh.
It is, Rahul said, a deliberate strategy to divide the poor of this country and pit brother against brother to prevent people from uniting to fight the true enemy -inequality,poverty and lack of opportunity. This politics of promoting polarisation and divisiveness for electoral gains must end, he said,
Rahul’s statement was backed by former MP Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, who said it was absolutely correct.
The Congress general secretary said he was the CM of MP for a decade and knew the style and functioning of Sangh, BJP, Jan Sangh and other allied organisations. (PTI)
