Agartala: At least three people, including a child, were injured, a woman raped and a vehicle burnt in separate incidents of violence allegedly perpetuated by the ruling CPI-M cadres in Western Tripura on Sunday night.
The incident took place in Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s constituency of Dhanpur.
A family which supports  BJP alleged that three CPI-M cadres, led by Manik Namo, raided their house in Monarchak village at night and raped a mother of three children.
When the husband tried to prevent them he was beaten up and his five-year-old son injured.
“Since we support the BJP, Manik Namo, Bapan Shil and Rabi Shil have been threatening us after the Panchayat election which was held last month and they have also been pressurising us to leave the party and join the CPI-M. But we refused,” a member of the family complained to the police.
According to the complaint, the miscreants barged into the house at around 9pm and ransacked it. They raped the housewife in front of her children and husband and beat up other family members.
Three of the victims, including the woman, were later shifted to a hospital.
In another incident in nearby Rabindranagar Shantipally village alleged CPI-M men set afire a vehicle belonging to a Trinamool Congress leader. The vehicle was parked in front of the house.
Police have registered two separate cases. However, no arrest has been made so far. (UNI)
