LJP laments non-issue of OBC certificates

SHILLONG: The State unit of the Lok Janshakti Party has lamented the fact that the State Government   has discontinued issuing OBC certificate to non-tribal citizens of the State.
In a memorandum submitted to Social Welfare Minister Deborah Ch. Marak, the party’s general secretary, R.G. Pradhan, said that the Government was issuing OBC certificates to the entitled citizens till 2006 but has discontinued it since then.
He stated that in a democratic setup, every individual or community has legitimate rights and there should be no discrimination of rights and privileges in a democratic country.
When contacted, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal said there is no caste in Meghalaya which falls under the category of OBC.
