SHILLONG: A division bench of Shillong High Court on Wednesday summoned Director General of Police PJP Hanaman after the State police failed to respond to the request of the High Court to provide police band and security to the Court for the upcoming Independence Day celebration.

A lawyer, who was a witness to the proceedings, on condition of anonymity said that the Court had earlier asked Meghalaya police to provide the band and security for the upcoming I-Day celebrations, but there was no response from the police side. However on Wednesday, the division bench comprising Justice TN Singh and Justice SR Sen asked the Advocate General to summon the DGP.

The DGP immediately responded and submitted his views before the Court.

The DGP assured the court that police would provide the band and security to the Court on August 15.

When contacted to take his views, an annoyed Hanaman told The Shillong Times, “You can write whatever you feel like”.
