SHILLONG: Several techniques on how to boost memory were explained at a seminar held here on Saturday.

“How to Double Your Memory” a seminar to help the students was organized in the city by India Book of Records in association with The Shillong Times on Saturday, at Sri Aurobindo Institute Auditorium, here.

The sessions were addressed by Guinness World Record Holder Dr. Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury, who talked at length about how to study and learn faster.

Dr. Chowdhury said that students spend most of their time studying 5 to 6 hours in school, 2 to 3 hours in coaching centres and rest of their time studying at home, but still they tend to forget the simplest of things inside the examination hall but are able to recollect the same outside the examination hall.

“If the student is able to recollect the answer outside the examination hall then why was he/ she not able to recollect the same inside the examination hall,” Dr. Chowdhury asked and added that this proves that he or she has not forgotten the answer and it was there in his or her memory and it happens because of a number of reasons.

During the seminar, Dr. Chowdhury took 48 random numbers from the audience and recollected these numbers in forward and backward order, which enthralled the students.

Addressing the students, Dr. Chowdhury demonstrated various memory skills like CRISMAS (Concentration, Ridiculous thinking, Imagination, Sleep, Mnemonics, Association and Science of belief) whereby he associated various objects and situations to make it easier to remember.

Two students, Tanishq Garg and Sherry Jindal from Dimapur, who had already attended Dr. Chowdhury’s workshop, were given 48 digits which they memorized in forward and reverse order.

Audience gave the duo their date of birth and the students were able to recollect the same. Garg and Jindal have also memorized 400 years calendar and can tell the day of any date in split seconds.

Due to their skills both Garg and Jindal were given the title of ‘Junior Memory Grand Masters’ by India Book of Records.

The workshops will continue at Sri Aurobindo Institute Auditorium till August 21.
