SHILLONG: An amount of Rs 75 is spent every day on the food of each patient admitted in Shillong Civil Hospital. This was revealed by an RTI filed by Meghalaya BJP general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty.

Reply to the RTI query also stated that everyday high protein foods including Amul Spray, Horlicks, condensed milk, banana, mixed vegetable, egg etc.,are given to the patients.

Surprisingly, as per the findings, the hospital does not have a dentist as there is no mention of one in the information obtained through the RTI.

The RTI also reveals that there are 30 specialist doctors in the Shillong Civil Hospital including two Radio diagnosis specialists, three surgery specialists, two ENT and three medicine specialists.

It may be mentioned that the State Government is also constructing a cancer wing within the hospital premises.

The foundation stone of the Rs 26-crore cancer wing was laid in March 2011 and the project was expected to be completed within 18 months. However, as per the RTI findings, construction work for the same is still going on.

Reacting to a query on the measures taken by the Health department to encourage doctors to work in rural areas, the RTI said the physicians working in rural areas are provided with incentives such as rural allowance and are given preference to pursue post graduate studies through Government quota.
