Over 6,500 people booked for violence in Kashmir in 2010
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Government on Wednesday said cases have been registered against 6,563 people during the 2010 summer unrest in the Valley which claimed lives of over 100 persons and left several others injured. “FIRs were registered against 6,563 persons, out of whom the FIRs have been withdrawn in respect of 1,811 persons,” Minister of state for Home Sajad Kitchloo said in a written reply in the state Assembly here. Replying to the question of PDP MLA A R Veeri, the Minister said 114 civilians, who were part of violent mobs, have lost their lives in the Valley from 2009 to July this year while 20 others died due to other reasons. “Since 2009 till ending July, 114 civilians have lost their lives in the Valley who were part of violent mobs or protests during the engagements between protesters and the deployment on ground. Chennai airport gets another hoax call, checks intensified
Chennai: For the second time in two days the Airport here received a bomb threat call on Wednesday, following which security was intensified and checks carried out at over 20 areas in the premises, police said. The office of the Director of Chennai Airport received a call at around 5.30 AM today, stating that a ‘human bomb’ would explode there, they said. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security and police were immediately alerted and intensive checks carried out in over 20 spots within the airport premises, including the cargo section, but the call turned out to be hoax, they said. Vigil and patrol has been enhanced in and around the airport, police added. On August 25, a similar call was received at the airport. Police said special teams had traced the previous threat call to Nagapattinam and are camping there to zero in on the culprit. (PTI)
Akhilesh to inspect development works next month
Lucknow: In a bid to check the progress of development works being undertaken in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will carry out inspections from next month. “The CM will start inspection of different divisions next month after September 10. The nodal officers appointed for the divisions have been asked to visit their respective districts and take stock of the situation in the field prior to the CM’s visit,” a spokesman said here on Wednesday. He said Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan has directed all officers to remain alert and prepared for the CM’s tour and added that strict disciplinary action could be initiated against any laxity in this regard. 4-year-old girl beaten up by teacher, suffers injury
Raipur: A class I student at a primary government school suffered injuries after she was allegedly hit by her teacher in Chhattisgarh’s Jangir-Champa district, police said on Wednesday. The 4-year-old girl suffered injuries in her elbow when the teacher, Tiklimani Dadsena allegedly hit her with a stick at Dhobnipali village under Dabhra police station limits, District Superintendent of Police Prashant Agarwal told PTI. The incident took place on August 22, when the teacher had beaten up the student for not paying attention in reading a book in the class, leading to minor dislocation of her elbow. She was later rushed to a local hospital for treatment, the official said. Further investigation into the matter is on, the official added. (PTI)
