SHILLONG: An FIR has been lodged at Mawlai PS against Prof. A.K. Das of the Mathematics Department, NEHU by a research scholar of the University alleging that the teacher had been sexually harassing her since February 2014.
Earlier, on Wednesday NEHU students had protested against the Professor continuing in the University.
However on Thursday, in a temporary relief, the High Court of Meghalaya asked NEHU not to carry out disciplinary action till a petition filed by the faculty member is disposed off.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued to the media, the State unit of BJP Youth Wing Meghalaya president, Egenstar Kurkalang, condemned the alleged abuse and harassments of the research scholar in NEHU.
“It is shameful for NEHU which is one of the oldest and reputed universities in North East. This has further put a question mark on the security of the female students in the University,” he said.
The State Unit of the BJYM said that the accused should be removed from the campus and urged the NEHU authority to complete the inquiry at the earliest.
The BJYM urged the teaching staff association, disciplinary committee and Vice Chancellor that strict rules and regulation should be framed so that appropriate action can be taken against anyone who abuses his power.
