NONGSTOIN: The indefinite hunger strike called by the Association of West Khasi Hills DSC Passed candidates (2010), entered its fourth day on Sunday even as the condition of those fasting deteriorated by the minute.

Despite appeals from the district administration which informed that it has written to the government about the demands of the Association, the agitators remained adamant and carried on with the fast.

A doctor from the Nongstoin Civil Hospital monitoring the health of the agitators informed that some of them were critical. Accordingly, three fasters– B.K.Jana, Rikynti Sun and Handerson Lyngkhoi-were shifted to Nongstoi Civil Hospital.

Earlier, on Saturday too, Sun who is the secretary of the Association, had to be shifted to the Civil Hospital along with one Bada Palei. The duo, however, returned to the venue of the indefinite hunger strike on Sunday morning from where Sun had to be shifted back to the hospital in the evening. Doctors said that she was extremely dehydrated and was in a critical state.

Extending solidarity towards the agitators, the KSU West Khasi Hills District Unit president, John Fisher Nongsiang lamented that the problem had dragged on for long.

The Union also appealed to the Government to check all alleged non-transparent, backdoor appointments.
