Ranchi:  Police Sunday seized 36 SIM cards and 15 mobile phones from the house of a man who married shooter Tara Shadeo pretending to be a Hindu and who allegedly forced her to later embrace Islam.
“We have seized 36 SIM cards, 15 mobile phones, two CPUs, four printers, two air shooting guns and documents related to court from house of Ranjit Kohli alias Rakibul Hassan,” Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar said.
Kohli is currently on three days police remand.
Police sources said Kohli appeared to be close to many senior judicial and police officials.
The sources said he was even using mobile phones allotted in the name of judicial officials of Bihar.
Mustaq Ahmad, a registrar with the Jharkhand High Court, was suspended Thursday.
Shadeo had alleged that it was Ahmad who organised her nikah with Kohli after her marriage was soleminsed in accordance with Hindu rituals.
In her complaint to police, Shadeo, a national level gold medallist rifle shooting champion, said she got married in July to Ranjit Kohli. She said the marriage was solemnised in accordance with Hindu rituals.
However, during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, she came to know from invitation cards that her husband’s original name was Rakibul Hassan.
She alleged that Kohli and 20 other people forced her to change her religion. When she refused, she was allegedly beaten up and a dog was set upon her.
Sahdeo alleged that she was threatened with dire consequences if she told anyone about the conversion. When Kohli went to New Delhi Aug 19, she messaged her family and was rescued. (IANS)
