SHILLONG: Meghalaya police has decided to take legal action against the leaders of the breakaway faction of the Achik National Volunteer Council militants — chairman Bernard N Marak (Rimpu Marak) and Political Secretary Doang Shira — for spreading rumours that Chief Minister Mukul Sangma had ordered a ‘shoot-at-sight’ against its cadres.

Terming the ANVC (B) allegation as baseless, malicious in nature, aimed at misinforming public and casting aspersions against police, a police department statement on Monday informed that the State CID has filed an application before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shillong, on Monday in this regard.

“The Chief Judicial Magistrate is prayed to issue suitable orders in this regard for further investigation into the press statement of ANVC (B),” the statement said.

According to police, the contents of the press release issued by the political secretary Doang Shira at the behest of its chairman have attracted the penal provisions of Section 505. IPC.

On receiving appropriate orders from the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, the State CID department will initiate appropriate legal action against the duo, the statement added.
