SHILLONG: The dissident camp has urged the Congress president Sonia Gandhi to depute a senior most leader of the party, who is impartial, to Shillong to assess the political situation in the state in the wake of the demand for change of leadership.

The former Chief Minister SC Marak, who led the delegation consisting MPCC president D D Lapang and Cabinet Minister HDR Lyngdoh to meet the Congress president in Delhi on August 27, said that he had requested her to depute a central leader as an impartial observer to discuss the resentment of the Congress legislators against the Chief Minister.

Marak told reporters on Monday that the Congress president during their meeting listened patiently and attentively to the various grievances of the legislators and the party leaders.

“She understood that the issue of demand for change of leadership is very serious and she assured us that a decision would be taken at an appropriate time after assessing the ground reality”, Marak said.

Asked what would be the role of Congress leader Luizinho Faleiro who is visiting Shillong on Friday, Marak said , “He is coming here as AICC General Secretary in charge Meghalaya, and it is his responsibility to meet the legislators and party leaders, but our request made before the Congress President was to depute another senior most leader who is impartial to assess the ground reality”.

According to Marak, the meeting of the legislators with Faleiro will not be final as far as the issue of demand for change of leadership is concerned.
