SHILLONG: In the wake of demand for change of leadership in the State Congress, the Opposition leader Donkupar Roy on Wednesday advocated the idea of an all -party Government in the state.

“We need stability and the need of the hour is an all-party government”, Roy said.

The former Chief Minister, however, wanted the Congress leaders to solve the lingering leadership issue at the earliest so that people of the state do not suffer.

“The Chief Minister, Ministers and many MLAs are not in station, and the people suffer a lot due to this. The issue of uncertainty should be addressed at the earliest “, Roy said.

Asked whether the UDP will be keen to join the Government if there is a change of leadership, Roy said, “it is a hypothetical question as of now”. He added that nobody from the dissident group contacted him in this regard.

To a question on the performance of the Chief Minister, Roy summed up, “He (Chief Minister) is not even accessible to his own Ministers”.

It may be mentioned here that the AICC general secretary in-charge Meghalaya Luizinho Faleiro will arrive here on Friday to discuss the issue of change of leadership in Congress party.

While the dissidents group considers the visit as ‘routine visit’ and it has nothing to do with the change of leadership, the loyalists of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma are hopeful that Faleiro will be able to end the crisis by calling the CLP meeting.

Former Chief Minister SC Marak, who is supporting the cause of the dissidents, has already made it clear that a neutral leader should be sent to the State by Congress High Command.
